M3 Shutdown After Horror Three-Vehicle Crash Near Sunbury
Surrey Roads Policing have slammed the brakes on the M3 southbound between Junction 1 and 2 after a serious collision involving two 4x4s and a third vehicle. One of the cars careened off the road near the on-slip at Junction 2.
Major Injuries Reported, Emergency Services Swarm Scene
Paramedics rushed several injured parties to hospital, with reports suggesting serious injuries. The crash triggered both northbound and southbound carriageways to shut down, as Surrey and Kent air ambulances were scrambled to the scene. Fire crews from Sunbury on Thames also arrived to secure the vehicles and ensure the area was safe.
Massive Traffic Chaos – Diversions in Place
Highways England teams, alongside police, reversed trapped motorists to ease congestion. Drivers heading westbound should exit the M3 at Junction 1 (Sunbury Cross), follow the A308 for about four miles to the A30 at Crooked Billet Interchange, then take the A30 (Staines Bypass) to M25 Junction 13. Due to ongoing roadworks between Junctions 2 and 3, motorists must skirt along the A322 (Bagshot) before rejoining the M3 at Junction 3.
A Highways England spokesman said: “The M3 in Surrey is closed westbound between J1 and J2 due to a traffic collision.” Police warn that the motorway won’t reopen before 7am at the earliest while investigations, recovery, and clean-up continue.
Recovery Underway as Police Probe Continues
As of 6:10am, recovery contractors have arrived, and detailed accident investigations are ongoing. Motorists are urged to avoid the area and plan alternative routes.
