Father Gets 22 Years for Baby’s Murder

Sean Jefferson, 35, was sentenced to 22 years behind bars today at Stafford Crown Court for the horrific murder of his five-week-old daughter, Darcy. The Walsall dad was found guilty following an eight-week trial, convicted of murder and two counts of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.

Mother Sentenced for Allowing Abuse

Darcy’s mother, Amy Leigh Clark, 34, of Lichfield, received seven years in prison. She was convicted of causing or allowing the death of her child and two counts of allowing serious physical harm to occur.

Baby Darcy Endured Shocking, Repeated Abuse

On Mother’s Day 2022, emergency services rushed to Darcy’s home in Burntwood after she collapsed. Arrests followed the next day, but baby Darcy sadly died in the hospital two days later. Staffordshire Police’s Major Investigations team uncovered a grim truth: Darcy wasn’t the victim of a single terrible act. She suffered relentless abuse during her short life. The brutal attacks left her with 47 fractured ribs and broken bones in both legs—injuries inflicted across at least three separate occasions. Medical experts confirmed these wounds were the result of deliberate violence.

Investigation and Moving Statement from Police

“This was sustained and merciless abuse of a defenceless baby by the very people who were meant to protect her,” said Detective Chief Inspector Ian Fitzgerald. “Darcy was violently assaulted again and again. Her father murdered her. Her mother allowed the abuse to continue until it killed her.” “Jefferson will now serve a significant portion of his life in prison. No sentence can ever reflect the cruelty inflicted or repair the devastation left behind. Our thoughts remain with her elder sibling.”

The detective praised the relentless work of officers and prosecutors who fought to bring justice for baby Darcy.
