RAC issues urgent warning to Glastonbury 2025 festivalgoers: Don’t let car trouble wreck your weekend!
Top Causes of Car Breakdowns at Glastonbury
The RAC’s mobile servicing team has revealed last year’s biggest vehicle nightmares at Glastonbury: burnt-out clutches, brake failures, and flat EV batteries topped the breakdown charts.
- Clutch issues caused by relentless stop-start traffic jams
- Worn-out brakes and sudden failures
- Dead or depleted electric vehicle batteries
- Punctures and oil shortages
- Fuel leaks and engine faults causing chaos
Beat the Traffic: When to Travel
Expect motorway madness from Tuesday evening onwards on the M4, M5, A303, and A361. Last year, queues doubled between 8-9pm on the M5 to A361 stretch.
- A37 delays ballooned from 30 minutes to over 2 hours by early afternoon
- A39 near Bridgwater saw half-hour delays as early as 7am
Pro tip: Arrive early before 7am or after peak traffic dies down post-2pm to dodge gridlock.
EV Drivers: Charge Up or Risk Stranding
Flat EV batteries were a top hassle last year. The RAC warns festival-goers to charge fully before arrival — on-site chargers will be busy and limited.
“Charge points on site will be buzzing. Make sure you have enough juice not just to get here, but to get away safely,” said RAC tech Tristan Kirk.
Use apps like Zapmap or myRAC to find chargers or cheap fuel en route.
Smart Car Park and Exit Tips
- Use the Blue Route via A303 and A37 — shorter queues and more space
- Avoid the A39, which saw multi-hour delays last year
- Remember: car park queues alone could add hours to your journey
- Leaving on Monday? Expect serious delays between 8am–5pm with over 210,000 people hitting the road
- Best time to exit: between 1am and 7am Monday, if safe to drive
RAC On-Site Emergency Support
RAC teams will be at the festival fixing common faults including broken suspension springs, torn tyres, and faulty fuel injectors.
