Diplomatic Outcry Over Forced Palestinian Evictions in Jerusalem
Diplomatic reps from across Europe and beyond have slammed Israel over looming forced evictions of Palestinian families in Jerusalem. The six families face eviction from Silwan, Sheikh Jarrah, and the Old City, with more than 80 people threatened with displacement.
International Pressure Mounts
Officials from Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, Greece, Ireland, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, and the UK have met with affected families. They urge Israeli authorities to halt eviction plans immediately.
They called the eviction moves part of an illegal settlement policy condemned by international law. “These evictions violate Israel’s obligations as an occupying power,” stated the diplomats, demanding a reversal of decisions.
Settlement Policy Ignites Tensions Amid Ramadan
The officials warned that Israel’s ongoing settlement expansion inflames regional tensions, especially as violence spikes in the West Bank. They highlighted concerns over planned demolitions in East Jerusalem during Ramadan, calling it “particularly worrying.”
This illegal policy, they argue, devastates the chances of a two-state solution and threatens Jerusalem’s role as a future shared capital.
