Storm Katie Strikes: Kayaker Goes Missing on River Wey
Family Identifies Missing Kayaker
The missing kayaker whose boat overturned on the River Wey in Guildford yesterday afternoon (28 March) has been named as 56-year-old Grant Broster. His wife, Rachel, revealed that Grant was using the family kayak when the incident happened.
“Grant was using the family kayak which capsized. He had not seen the flood warnings,” Rachel said. “Our son entered the water to try and help his father but was pulled to safety.”
Ongoing Search Efforts in Full Swing
Despite no further sightings of Grant, search teams are tirelessly scouring the river and its banks. Surrey Police, Surrey Fire and Rescue, and Surrey Search and Rescue are all involved in the extensive hunt near the Guildford Borough Council offices.
The Millmead car park has been shut to the public as it serves as the hub for emergency services co-ordinating the search operation.
Family Appeals for Privacy
“We would like to thank all the emergency services and agencies for their dedicated help,” said Rachel. “We now ask that our privacy is respected at this difficult time.”
