Fire-Ravaged Forest Gate Police Station Leaves Roads Shut Weeks On
A vicious blaze tore through Forest Gate Police Station on Romford Road on March 6, and weeks later, sections of the road and a nearby residential street remain sealed off. The fire smashed the building’s roof and upper floors, sparking fears of falling debris and forcing ongoing closures as safety experts size up the damage.
175 Firefighters Battle Blaze, No Injuries Reported
It took around 175 firefighters to douse the inferno that devastasted the station. Thankfully, no injuries have been reported. But the aftermath has caused major disruption, with road closures and bus diversions still snarling local travel in Newham borough.
Police Services Relocated, Public Service Continues
The Met Police have shifted their 999 response team to Plaistow station. Meanwhile, a mobile front counter is up and running at Stratford Police Station to keep serving the public. Detective Superintendent Charles Clare said:
“Since the fire at Forest Gate Police Station, officers and police staff have worked round the clock to maintain full policing across Newham. We apologise for the inconvenience caused by the road closures, but safety comes first due to the risk of falling debris.”
Uncertain Timeline for Reopening as Investigations Continue
The Met and Newham Council are working to reopen roads ASAP, but no date has been set yet. Residents and local businesses remain in limbo as the investigation into the fire’s cause drags on. The London Fire Brigade warned that the scale and complexity of the blaze means figuring out what started it could take some time.
The community is urged to keep checking council updates for the latest on road closures and bus diversions. Public safety remains the top priority as authorities battle to secure the damaged site.
