Mortar Bomb Sparks Evacuations in Barnehurst Garden
Homes were urgently evacuated in Barnehurst, Bexley after a suspected mortar bomb was discovered in a garden on Thursday afternoon.
Police Respond to Dangerous Device
Met Police were called to the scene at around 4pm. Officers believe the explosive had been sitting unnoticed “for some time.”
A police spokesperson confirmed: “People have been evacuated as a precaution while specialist teams deal with it.”

- Randolph Close and surrounding streets evacuated
- Police, paramedics, and London Fire & Rescue crews all on site
- HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) rushed in to assist
- Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal van spotted at the scene
A large police cordon is in place, and residents have been taken to a nearby station for safety while experts work to make the device safe.

Police are advising drivers and pedestrians to steer clear of Barnehurst to allow emergency crews to work without interruption.
