Mortar Bomb Sparks Evacuations in Barnehurst Garden

Homes were urgently evacuated in Barnehurst, Bexley after a suspected mortar bomb was discovered in a garden on Thursday afternoon.

Police Respond to Dangerous Device

Met Police were called to the scene at around 4pm. Officers believe the explosive had been sitting unnoticed “for some time.”

A police spokesperson confirmed: “People have been evacuated as a precaution while specialist teams deal with it.”

  • Police, paramedics, and London Fire & Rescue crews all on site
  • HART (Hazardous Area Response Team) rushed in to assist
  • Royal Logistic Corps bomb disposal van spotted at the scene

A large police cordon is in place, and residents have been taken to a nearby station for safety while experts work to make the device safe.
