Massive Lorry Wrecks Havoc Near Hawkenbury
Chaos erupted this afternoon on Headcorn Road when a huge HGV skidded off the road and smashed into a ditch just past the bridge near Hawkenbury. Half the cab and trailer hung perilously over the roadside, sparking major disruption for drivers.
Staplehurst Emergency Help Team Rush In
The Staplehurst Emergency Help Team (SEHT) jumped into action fast. Joining forces with Kent County Council, police, and the lorry firm, SEHT set up a safe zone and took control of traffic using radio-controlled alternating signals.
Road Closed for 90 Minutes as Recovery Unfolds
A full road closure was needed to haul the lorry out safely, causing a 90-minute rush hour gridlock nightmare. Thankfully, the recovery team got the HGV out intact with zero road damage. Headcorn Road reopened sharp at 2:30pm.
Patience Praised but Some Drivers Lost It
SEHT praised most drivers for staying calm during the hold-up. But they slammed a minority who spat abuse at volunteers. “Our unpaid volunteers work hard for the community,” SEHT said. “Abuse and threats won’t be tolerated and have been reported to police.”
