Lorry Crash Sparks Traffic Havoc in Fareham
A refuse lorry flipped over at Fareham’s busy Delme Roundabout this morning, sparking major chaos on the roads.
Emergency Teams Rush to Scene
The incident happened around 9:40am near Wallington Way, close to the junction leading to the A27 and Portchester. Fire crews from Fareham and Cosham raced to the scene after the lorry overturned. They had to remove the truck’s windscreen to free the trapped driver.
Road Closure Causes Morning Mayhem
The crash crushed a nearby lamp post and completely blocked the roundabout for roughly three hours. Recovery and clean-up teams battled to clear the wreckage, forcing motorists to find alternative routes during the extended closure.
Driver Speaks Out
“It all went into slow motion. I went around the bend and the wheel gave way. There was nothing I could do. It was very scary,” said the Gosport-based driver. “I’ve been driving these lorries for over 25 years.”
The lorry was carrying household rubbish destined for Aldershot. Luckily, no other vehicles were involved and the driver suffered only minor shoulder injuries.
Clean-Up Underway
Fareham Borough Council crews joined forces with the lorry owners to clear the debris and get traffic moving again as soon as possible.
