Met Police Officer Mown Down in High-Speed Chase Horror
A Met Police officer has been rushed to hospital after a terrifying incident in East London early Sunday morning. It happened just after midnight on Chigwell Road, Woodford, near the station, when the officer was struck by a speeding vehicle while trying to stop a fleeing motorist.
Officer Hit While Trying to Stop Fleeing Driver
The officer was on duty when they deployed a stop stick in an attempt to halt a Mini Cooper being chased for driving on the wrong side of the road. The vehicle slammed into the officer, throwing them a considerable distance. Clothing and uniform pieces were scattered across the scene as police scrambled to secure the area.
Suspect Flees Scene; Car Found in Essex
The Mini Cooper sped off, leaving the injured officer behind. Roads were closed as a major investigation kicked off. Police later found a damaged vehicle in Essex, now under guard, but the driver remains at large. A large police and collision investigation team remains on site.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
A Met Police spokeswoman said: “A Met officer has been taken to hospital after being injured during an incident around 00.10hrs on Sunday, 6 January. The car left the scene and a search is being carried out for the driver. London Ambulance Service attended and the officer has been taken to hospital, where we await an update on his condition.”
