Old Newhaven Police Station Set for Affordable Housing Makeover
Lewes District Council’s Leader, Councillor James MacCleary, paid a visit to the former police station site in Newhaven to check on its exciting transformation into affordable homes. The scheme includes 15 two-bedroom flats, four one-bedroom apartments, and two three-bedroom houses.
One ground-floor flat is specially designed for wheelchair users, while 11 other units feature enhanced accessibility for disabled residents.
Green, Modern, and Perfectly Placed
These homes are 100% electric and built with sustainability front and centre. They boast top-notch insulation, a green living roof, and a large bike store to push eco-friendly travel. The development sits in a prime spot with easy access to public transport and local shops.
Residents will also benefit from a parking permit system linking to nearby council-owned car parks, easing parking concerns in this central location.
Big Plans Fuel Newhaven’s Revamp
Councillor MacCleary emphasised the importance of keeping up the pace with Newhaven’s wider regeneration projects. These include revamping the old Co-op into a health and wellbeing hub, transforming the old UTC building, and upgrading Dacre Road Car Park.
“Our plans are finally coming together,” MacCleary said, signalling a bright future for the town.
Housing Chief Applauds Cost-Smart Council Homes
Councillor William Meyer, Cabinet Member for Housing, lauded the project as a prime example of delivering quality homes despite tight budgets. “This development addresses the urgent housing needs of our district’s residents,” Meyer stated.
