Brighton Council Cracks Down on Dangerous Trafalgar Street Junction

Brighton and Hove City Council plans major changes to boost road safety around Trafalgar Street. The spotlight is on the Blackman Street and Trafalgar Street junction, a known accident hotspot.

Six Crashes Spark Urgent Action

Over the last three years, six collisions have caused injuries at this junction. The main culprit? Vehicles pulling out of Blackman Street and crashing into cars, pedestrians, or cyclists. Poor visibility from Blackman Street makes things worse.

Proposed Fix: Close Blackman Street at Trafalgar

To tackle the risk, the Brighton & Hove Economic Partnership is set to shut Blackman Street where it meets Trafalgar Street. Traffic will still flow both ways between Cheapside and the car park on Blackman Street. Cyclists will keep full access, mirroring the current setup at Station Street.
