Police launch urgent hunt after 17-year-old girl sexually assaulted in Southampton underpass.

Daytime Attack Shakes Bitterne

A 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted near Bitterne Library at around 1:10pm. Officers say the victim was approached by a man who asked inappropriate questions before dragging her down a flight of stairs into a subway underpass.

The predator then touched the girl over her clothes on the upper half of her body. He fled when passersby appeared from the other side of the underpass.

Suspect On The Run

The attacker is described as:

  • South Asian appearance
  • Slim build
  • Black hair and black beard
  • About 5ft 4in tall

Police Plea For Witnesses

“This was a disturbing incident in the middle of the day and we are doing everything we can to identify and arrest the suspect. If you were in the area or have information, please contact us immediately,” said a Hampshire Police spokesperson.
