Chaos hit Chingford Mount at dawn as a blazing fire tore through the Subway sandwich shop on Hall Lane. Thick, choking smoke billowed skywards just after 7am, triggering a huge emergency response.

Transport Chaos and Shop Closures

  • Buses 158, 385, 444, and W16 were rerouted to dodge the smoke and flames.
  • Nearby Sainsbury’s supermarket shut its doors amid the havoc.
  • Hall Lane is sealed off between Old Church Road and Tufton Road with cordons in place.

Firefighters Battle Blaze as Air Ambulance Lands

A dramatic scene unfolded as ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters swarmed the site. Parts of the ground floor, first floor, and roof are still blazing, with significant roof damage and a partial collapse of the internal staircase.

An air ambulance touched down nearby while crews battled the relentless flames that brought this once-quiet suburban high street to a halt.

One woman and a child escaped before firefighters arrived and were rushed to the hospital in London Ambulance Service vehicles.

Investigation Underway, Public Urged to Steer Clear

The London Fire Brigade received the first call at 11:35am, dispatching teams from Walthamstow, Chingford, Tottenham, and surrounding areas.

The fire’s cause remains unknown. Roads remain closed amid heavy traffic disruption. Authorities warn locals to avoid the scene for their own safety.
