Hero Siblings Save Family from Blaze in Dramatic Fire Rescue

Quick-Thinking Kids Rescue Family from House Fire

Two young siblings from Surrey Heath pulled off a life-saving miracle during a terrifying house fire last December. George, 12, and his 9-year-old sister Olivia sprang into action when a tumble dryer blazed up in their dad’s home.

George dashed upstairs to save their sleeping baby brother Luke, while Olivia contained the flames by shutting the kitchen door. They also ensured their grandmother was safe before calling 999. Their swift bravery stopped the fire from turning deadly.

Firefighters Praise Brave Youngsters

Surrey Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) honoured the youngsters at Camberley Fire Station for their quick wit and courage. “The actions of George and Olivia that day undoubtedly saved their family and prevented further damage to their home,” said Chief Fire Officer Dan Quin. “Despite their age, their bravery was truly incredible.”

The children enjoyed a special tour at the station, exploring fire engines and even sliding down the fireman’s pole, making the day unforgettable.

Mother Urges Families to Stay Fire Safe

Mom Vicky Harrison hopes the siblings’ story will raise awareness about fire safety at home. She urges all parents to teach children their address and how to dial 999 in an emergency. “Getting a call that my children were in a house fire is every parent’s nightmare. I couldn’t be prouder of them both,” she said.

Surrey Fire Service Warns: Stay Alert and Be Prepared

  • Test smoke alarms regularly
  • Know common fire hazards
  • Book a Safe and Well Visit if vulnerable
  • If a fire breaks out: stay calm, leave immediately, and call 999

George and Olivia’s heroic actions are a powerful reminder that quick thinking saves lives. Their story highlights why fire safety awareness matters for every family.
