A major link between the M2 and Sittingbourne is slammed shut after a tragic early morning collision. The A249 near the Keycol Hill roundabout remains closed both ways as police investigate.

Just after 1 a.m. on Wednesday, a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle near the busy A249 dual carriageway. Emergency services rushed to the scene, but sadly, the individual was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
A police cordon was quickly established while officers launched an urgent inquiry. The coroner has been informed, with the death considered unexplained but not suspicious at this stage.

A Highways England spokesman said: “The A249 near Sittingbourne is closed in both directions between the A2 (Key Street) and B2006 because of a police-led incident. Kent Police are managing the scene, supported by National Highways officers handling traffic control.”
