Blaze Erupts at Historic Midhurst Hotel
A massive fire has ripped through a hotel on North Street in Midhurst, West Sussex. Fire crews are battling the blaze as ten fire engines, an aerial ladder, a water carrier, and an off-road vehicle tackle the inferno.
Fire Spreads Rapidly, Engulfs Two Buildings
Local witness Hilton Holloway revealed the flames began as a small fire on the roof of the Angel Inn, a historic building offering shelter to Ukrainian refugees. “The fire alarm went off at around 1 a.m. The fire looked contained then, but within 20 minutes it exploded,” he said.
“It’s a done deal. The lovely old building that adds to the character of Midhurst High Street is gone,” Holloway added mournfully.
Police and Fire Crews Work Together Amid Road Closures
Sussex Police confirmed officers are helping fire crews secure the area and support those affected by the blaze. “Local roads will remain closed while the investigation continues. More updates will follow,” a statement read.
Residents nearby have been warned to keep windows shut due to dense smoke blanketing the area.
Cause of Fire Still Unknown
The origin of the devastating fire remains a mystery. Authorities are investigating, with more information expected soon.
