Rare Genetic Condition and Tough Battle: Meet Tyler Thompson

One in a Million

Tyler Thompson lives with one of the rarest genetic conditions on the planet. Ring 14 with Deletions, a chromosome syndrome, has only about three reported cases worldwide. The condition impacts Tyler’s mobility, learning, and causes seizures.

Despite these challenges, Tyler is a fighter. He can say around 40 words, practices sign language, and understands simple sentences. His determination to play and make friends shines through every day.

Facing Leukemia – High Risk and Hardship

On June 2, 2021, Tyler was dealt another brutal blow: he was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia (ALL). Worse still, he falls into the high-risk category, requiring aggressive treatment.

Tyler has undergone multiple blood transfusions and has had a central line fitted to his heart. Right now, he’s in the induction phase of chemotherapy, taking steroids, and battling infections while on round-the-clock antibiotics — his immune system shattered by treatment.

To make matters worse, he faces weekly bone marrow biopsies and lumbar punctures. These procedures are terrifying for a child, and Tyler has endured five weeks in hospital with no end in sight.

Still, he keeps most of the time smiling through the pain — a true trooper.

Family’s Heartbreak and Hope

“We are absolutely devastated. Words cannot describe the emotions we are going through. But we are trying to remain positive and most importantly, strong for Tyler.” ❤️

Tyler’s family is calling on the kindness of strangers to help fund his needs – a specialist wheelchair, home modifications, and a specially trained therapy dog. They’ve also promised Tyler a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Liverpool FC to meet his football heroes.

How You Can Help

Tyler’s future may look tough, but his spirit is unbreakable. His family believes that with your support, they can give him the best life possible. Every donation counts, no matter how small.

Tyler has plenty to say and dreams to chase. Everyone who meets him can’t help but fall in love. He’s especially eager to get back home to his little sister, Cleo — or “KiKi,” as he affectionately calls her.
