A former taxi driver has been locked up after intentionally driving at a family in Newcastle, causing life-changing injuries to one man. The shocking attack unfolded last year on Brighton Grove in Fenham.

Shocking Attack Caught on Night Out

It was around 9:15pm on Sunday, September 14, when a family left a restaurant and crossed the road to return to their car. Suddenly, a silver Skoda Superb roared around the corner at speed, swerving dangerously. Worried by the reckless driving, a family member threw a small lollipop at the vehicle as a warning. In response, Hasan Mohammed made a three-point turn at traffic lights before accelerating full speed directly towards the group.

Man Thrown Into Air, Family Narrowly Missed

The male victim, in his 50s, was hit and thrown several feet into the air. Others, including a woman holding a one-year-old child, barely escaped harm. Mohammed fled the scene but was arrested 42 minutes later. Police seized his damaged car from his Elswick home.

Victim’s Life Forever Changed

The victim suffered fractures to his leg, ribs, shoulder, and vertebrae, plus internal bleeding and severe facial injuries. In a poignant impact statement, he said:

“What began as a normal evening out ended in something that has permanently changed my life.” “There was no time to react or protect myself. I remember the fear, the confusion, and then the impact.” “I was struck at speed and thrown. What stays with me is not just the pain, but the knowledge that my family, including my young grandson and daughter, were right there and could have been killed.” “Before this incident, I was a strong and independent man. That part of my life has now been taken away from me.” “Following major surgery, including a full shoulder replacement, my body no longer does what it once did. I now need help with the most personal aspects of my life.” Mohammed’s calculated attack has left a family shattered and a man fighting to rebuild his life.
