Tragic Hit-and-Run in Normanton: Cyclist Dead After Collision

Alan Tankard, 31, from Normanton, has died after a hit-and-run crash on Wakefield Road at around 11:20pm last night (Wednesday 13 April).

A black Honda Civic heading north smashed into Alan’s push bike before fleeing the scene. Emergency crews arrived to find the cyclist with fatal injuries.

Suspects Arrested After Car Abandoned

Police found the Honda Civic abandoned shortly after the crash. Two men have been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and are currently in custody.

Wakefield Road was temporarily closed while officers investigated the serious collision.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Helen Steele of the Major Enquiry Team said:

“This has been a tragic collision resulting in a loss of life. The driver failed to stop, but two arrests have been made.”

She added: “We urge anyone who saw the crash, the bike or car beforehand, or has CCTV footage, to get in touch.”
