Man Arrested in Abbey Wood After Falsely Claiming to Have Knife
A man was arrested in Abbey Wood after he lied about carrying a knife during a police chase.
Police Pursuit Ends With Taser Deployment
Officers tried to stop a man in Eynsham Drive at around 10:30am on Sunday. Instead of complying, the man took off on foot. During the pursuit, he claimed to be armed with a knife, prompting officers to use a taser to bring him down. However, police found no knife on him once arrested.
Charged with Multiple Offences
The suspect was arrested on suspicion of breach of bail conditions and “going equipped” — carrying items for a crime. Authorities confirmed he did not have a knife at the time.
Taken to Hospital Before Police Custody
After his arrest, the man was treated for a pre-existing hand injury at a hospital. Once treated, he was discharged back into police custody, where he remains.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the details, praising officers’ swift and careful response during the incident.
