Arson Alert in Barnstaple: Police Hunt Firestarter After Blaze at Savers

Fire Deliberately Set at Popular High Street Store

Police are on the hunt after an arson attack at Savers Health and Beauty in Barnstaple’s High Street. A fire was deliberately started inside a metal cage filled with cardboard at the back of the shop.

Damage Hits £500 – Danger to Staff and Shoppers

The blaze broke out between 1.50pm and 2pm on Friday 12 July, causing roughly £500 worth of damage to the cage and the building. Thankfully, quick action put out the flames before anyone got hurt.

PC Sara Withecome warned: “This happened during opening hours with staff and customers inside the shop and neighbouring businesses at the time. The fire was put out quite quickly and thankfully no-one was injured. However, as the cage was against the building this could have been much more serious.”

Police Appeal for Witnesses

Officers are treating the incident as arson and are asking anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to come forward. If you have information, contact police online or call 101, quoting crime reference 50240172787.
