Lincolnshire Cop Up for National Bravery Award After Heroic Rescue Attempt

An off-duty Lincolnshire Police officer has been nominated for the National Police Bravery Awards 2024. His brave efforts to save a nine-year-old girl who was stabbed in Boston Town Centre have earned him widespread praise.

Heroic Act in Boston Town Centre

On the evening of July 28, 2022, the officer was out socialising without his protective gear when he suddenly heard metallic noises followed by screams. Without hesitation, he ran towards the chaos, unaware of the grim scene awaiting him.

He found nine-year-old Lilia Valutyte stabbed and in urgent need of help. Despite being off duty and unarmed, the officer immediately stepped in. He identified himself as police, calmed the panicked family, and performed life-saving CPR as a crowd gathered around.

Tragic Loss and Relentless Pursuit of Justice

Sadly, Lilia passed away within the hour. Yet the officer’s bravery didn’t end at the scene. He has stayed fully involved in the investigation, showing remarkable resilience despite the personal trauma he faced.

Praise from Top Brass

Helen Stamp, Chair of the 1 Police Federation, hailed the officer’s “unwavering bravery” and “selflessness in the face of danger.” She expressed immense pride in his outstanding conduct.

Chief Superintendent Kate Anderson of Lincolnshire Police also commended his courage, noting the risks he faced without protective equipment. She said his swift actions and care were vital in supporting Lilia until further help arrived.

Anderson added, “His continued commitment throughout the investigation highlights the exceptional dedication many police officers show in protecting their communities, often at great personal risk.”
