A family has made an emotional appeal over a fatal hit-and-run in Tipton as Crimestoppers offer a £20,000 reward

It’s more than a year since the hit-and-run collision which claimed the life of Darren Whitehouse in Tipton, and as Crimestoppers put up a £20,000 reward, we and his family are appealing again to find the driver involved. On the afternoon of Saturday 27th February 2021, a silver Infiniti Q50S mounted the pavement on St Marks Road in Tipton and hit Darren, tragically taking his life. The 43-year-old had innocently been standing talking to a friend, after taking his dog for a walk. The Infiniti drove straight off and was abandoned shortly afterwards in nearby Griffiths Street. It has since been discovered that it was a stolen vehicle which was displaying false plates. During a lengthy investigation two men were arrested, however so far no charges have been brought. The investigation continues and detectives are appealing for anyone with information, specifically about who was driving that car at the time of the collision, to come forward. Detective Sergeant Paul Hughes, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “I am extremely grateful to the charity Crimestoppers who have today offered an incredible reward of up to £20,000 for information about those responsible. “Darren’s family have been left devastated by these events and over a year later are still without the answers they deserve. “I know the community of Tipton is very close and supportive but I do believe that someone has the answers we need and I’d ask them to think about Darren’s family and come forward with that vital information.” If you have any information, please contact the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111 or through their non-traceable anonymous online form at Crimestoppers-uk.org.
