Swindon man found guilty of drug driving disqualified from the roads

A Swindon man has been disqualified from driving after he was found guilty of taking drugs before getting behind the wheel of a car. Liam Harvey, 30, of Waggoner Close, Abbey Meads, was stopped by a Roads Policing Officer in Trowbridge Close on March 28, 2020. Officers suspected he was under the influence of drugs. A drugs wipe test was conducted which was positive for cocaine and he was arrested. He pleaded not guilty but was found guilty following a trial at Swindon Magistrates Court and as well as the 12 month disqualification from driving, he was fined £101, ordered to pay Crown Prosecution Service costs of £250 and £32 to Victim Services. PC Luke Hobbs said: “Drug driving seriously increases your risk of being involved in a collision, putting both your life and the lives of other road users at risk. “It is so disappointing to see people continuing to take these risks. The Roads Policing Unit here at Wiltshire Police is committed to keeping our roads safe and we will do all that we can to target individuals who drive under the influence of drugs.”
