Russian Airstrikes Kill Three in Southern Ukraine Amid Rising Tensions
Russian strikes have left a deadly trail in southern Ukraine, killing three civilians across Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, and Kharkiv regions overnight. The latest attacks come amid escalating conflict, hitting homes, infrastructure, and leaving communities on edge.
Zaporizhzhia Hit Hard
Yurii Malashko, head of Zaporizhzhia’s military administration, confirmed a 53-year-old man died after an artillery strike. Russia targeted 25 locations in the region, causing widespread destruction to residences and critical infrastructure.
Deaths in Kherson and Kharkiv
Kharkiv also suffered, with a 67-year-old wounded in assaults a day earlier, according to regional leader Oleh Syniehubov.
Meanwhile, the Kherson region mourns two civilian fatalities from Russian shelling. The city military administration reported damage across Kherson and five nearby settlements. Oleksandr Prokudin, head of the Kherson Military Administration, said bluntly: “Occupiers are shelling the Kherson region. There are dead and injured.”
Sumy Region Attacked but No Injuries Reported
Further north, Russia launched repeated strikes on Sumy’s communities. Thankfully, no casualties were reported by the regional military authorities.
Ukrainian Forces Push Forward in Zaporizhzhia
Despite relentless bombardment, Ukrainian troops are making headway near Novoprokopivka, just 1.5km south of Robotyne. Footage from September 23 shows fierce clashes on the village’s northeast outskirts, with signs Ukrainian forces may have cleared Russian positions, the Institute for the Study of War revealed.
The southern battlefront remains hotly contested, with Ukraine advancing steadily but facing tough Russian defenses.
Lavrov Slams West, Shrugs Off UN Grain Deal
In a diplomatic jab, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov branded Western countries an “empire of lies” and dismissed UN efforts to revive the Black Sea grain export deal. He accused the proposals of failing to meet Moscow’s demands, following Russia’s recent withdrawal from the initiative tied to rejoining the global SWIFT banking system.
