Detectives are continuing their investigation into the tragic death of a man who succumbed to his injuries after being trapped in a fire at a property in Wigan. The victim, who has now been identified as Mark Vernal, was in his 40s.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at a property on Dumbarton Green, Wigan, at around 6:40 am on Wednesday, August 14, 2024. Upon arrival, they discovered Mr Vernal trapped inside the building and suffering from severe, life-threatening injuries.

Despite being rushed to the hospital, Mr. Vernal tragically passed away due to the extent of his injuries.
A murder investigation has been launched, with detectives working diligently to uncover the circumstances surrounding the incident. Authorities have confirmed that they are treating the fire as suspicious and are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward.
Greater Manchester Police have reassured the local community that they are pursuing all lines of inquiry and that a dedicated team of detectives is actively investigating the case. Forensic teams remain on the scene as they continue their examination of the property.
