Four fire engines were dispatched to the scene following reports of smoke billowing from the property. Neighbours, who noticed the smoke, quickly raised the alarm, leading to an urgent response from emergency services. Despite the best efforts of firefighters and paramedics, one person was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

The fire, which left the building with blown-out windows, has resulted in a crime scene being established at the property. Chelsham Road remains closed in both directions as investigators from both the LFB and the Metropolitan Police work to determine the cause of the blaze and the circumstances surrounding the tragic death.
