A father and his three young sons have been tragically found dead at their home in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Staines-Upon-Thames, Surrey. The devastating discovery was made by an ambulance crew around 1 p.m. on Saturday, August 31.
The victims have been identified as Piotr Świderski, believed to be a Polish national, and his three sons, including twin boys, all under the age of four. The tragic deaths have shocked the local community, with many expressing their grief and disbelief.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which they believe to be isolated, and do not suspect anyone else to be involved. The force has also referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to previous contact with the family.
Flowers and tributes have been left outside the family’s home on Bremer Road, with mourners paying their respects to the lives lost. One tribute read, “Rest in peace little ones. We will always think of you,” capturing the deep sorrow felt by those in the community.
Chief Inspector Lucy Sanders of Surrey Police described the deaths as a “tragic loss of life” and assured the community that a thorough investigation is underway. “We are working to establish exactly what has occurred. There is currently a significant police presence at the location, and in the surrounding area, and we would like to thank local residents for their patience and understanding whilst we conduct our investigation,” she said.
DCI Gareth Hicks, who is leading the investigation, echoed these sentiments and confirmed that Bremer Road has now fully re-opened, although a police presence will remain in the area. He added, “This is a truly tragic incident and a thorough investigation is underway to establish exactly what happened. We would like to thank the local community for their support and understanding.
The community remains in shock, with neighbours recounting their interactions with the Świderski family. One neighbour, Shehr Sikandari, described the heartbreaking moment when he heard “horrific screams” shortly before the police arrived. “Three lovely children – we have seen them playing. It’s a lovely family,” he said, adding that the children were “full of life” and often seen playing and enjoying their time together.
Another neighbour, Vincenzo Alba, expressed the fear and sadness that has gripped the neighbourhood. “It’s been a massive shock for all of our neighbours. It’s scary when something like this happens on your doorstep, especially when kids are involved,” he said.
The IOPC has confirmed that it has been notified by Surrey Police about the incident and will be assessing whether any action is required. The community is left mourning the loss of the young lives and the father who has left behind a grieving wife and family. The investigation into the circumstances of their deaths continues.
