Kyle Clifford has been remanded in custody following a court appearance today (September 17) at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, where it was revealed that one of his victims had been tied to a chair during a fatal crossbow and knife attack. Clifford, 26, faces three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and two counts of possession of offensive weapons after an incident in Bushey, Hertfordshire, on July 9.
The victims, Carol Hunt, 61, the wife of BBC racing commentator John Hunt, and their two daughters, Hannah, 28, and Louise, 25, were found with fatal injuries at their family home in Ashlyn Close. Carol had been stabbed, and both daughters were shot with a crossbow.
The court heard that Louise Hunt had been tied to a chair when officers arrived at the property. Hannah Hunt had made a distressing phone call to the police during the attack, stating that she feared she, her sister, and her mother would not survive the ordeal.
Clifford, of Rendlesham Road, Enfield, was charged with three counts of murder, false imprisonment, and possession of offensive weapons, including a crossbow and a 10-inch butcher’s knife. He had been under arrest since July 10, but police were previously unable to interview him due to his own injuries, for which he was receiving treatment in hospital.
The Chief Magistrate, Paul Goldspring, remanded Clifford in custody, stating that the charges of murder and false imprisonment are serious matters that must be heard at the crown court. Clifford is set to appear later today at the Royal Courts of Justice for a further hearing.
In a previous statement following the tragic incident, John Hunt and his third daughter Amy expressed their devastation: “The devastation we are experiencing cannot be put into words.”
The court case continues as Clifford faces trial for the harrowing attack that has left a family and community reeling.
