Five men have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Michael Wheeler, a 37-year-old man from Yeovil who has not been seen since 24 August 2024.
Michael Wheeler, who disappeared almost a month ago, was last seen in the Yeovil area. His car was recovered last week in the town, adding to concerns for his safety. Despite extensive searches and appeals, Mr Wheeler has not returned home or been in contact with family or friends, raising fears about his well-being. He has also missed several regular appointments, according to Avon and Somerset Police.
The five men arrested in connection with the case are aged between their late teens and late 30s. They are currently in police custody for questioning. A sixth man, arrested last week, remains on bail while investigations continue.
Detective Chief Inspector Lorett Spierenburg, who is leading the inquiry, stated:
“We have been keeping an open mind over what has happened to Michael, who has now not been seen for a month, but we can confirm this is being treated as a murder inquiry.
DCI Spierenburg added:
“Arrests were made last week to enable us to question several individuals while under caution to understand if they knew anything that could help us locate Michael. Detectives will be questioning all five men as part of our ongoing efforts to establish what has happened and whether any criminal offences have occurred.”
Mr. Wheeler’s family is being supported by specially trained officers as they await further developments in the investigation.
Police are urging anyone with information about Michael Wheeler’s disappearance to come forward as the inquiry continues.
