A murder investigation has been launched after a teenage boy was found with a fatal injury in Islington. Police have identified the victim as 16-year-old Deonte Mowatt-Slater.
Emergency services were called to Courtauld Road at 00:12hrs on Tuesday, 22 October, following reports of a possible collision. Officers and London Ambulance Service (LAS) personnel attended the scene, where they discovered Deonte with a serious injury. Despite the efforts of medics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, who is leading the investigation, stated, “We are in the very early stages of our investigation. At this point, it is unclear exactly where Deonte was when he suffered his injury. He was found injured on Courtauld Road along with his motorcycle.”
He added, “We are working hard to establish the sequence of events that led to this tragic loss of a young life. I am keen to hear from anyone who witnessed or has footage of, any part of this incident. Several crime scenes remain in place while we continue with our enquiries, and I would like to thank local residents in advance for their patience.”
Deonte’s family has been informed of the tragedy and is being supported by specialist officers. A post-mortem examination will be scheduled in the coming days to determine the exact cause of death.
As of now, no arrests have been made. The police are urging anyone with information, footage, or dash-cam recordings related to the incident to come forward. Witnesses can call the Incident Room on 020 8358 0100, dial 101, or post on X @MetCC quoting reference 95/22OCT.
