A 21-year-old man from Locks Heath faced Portsmouth Magistrates’ Court this morning charged with a shocking arson attack.
Man Pleads Guilty to Setting Victim on Fire
Chad Dendy, of Drake Close, dressed in a black woolly jumper, confirmed his name and address during a brief court appearance. He pleaded guilty to one count of arson with intent to endanger life.
The court heard how Dendy doused a Silver BMW with petrol and set it alight while the victim was still inside. The victim suffered minor burns to his skin and clothes in the terrifying attack, which unfolded at the 1 Centre Car Park on Sunday, June 12.
Denied Bail, Remanded in Custody
Dendy made no application for bail. The Magistrate refused bail citing the severity of the crime and the likely punishment awaiting him.
He was remanded into custody and is set to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on July 15.
