Two young men have been locked up over a brutal street brawl that claimed the life of 29-year-old Patrick Oyeri. Daniel Qureshi, 19, from Hounslow, was convicted of violent disorder and carrying a bladed weapon following a trial at Isleworth Crown Court on 12 March.
His accomplice, 18-year-old Abbas Issa from Isleworth, pleaded guilty to the same charges on day one of the trial back in February 2018. Both were sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 24 May.
Harsh Sentences for Violent Disorder and Weapon Possession
- Daniel Qureshi was handed four years for violent disorder, with an additional year for dangerousness, plus three years for carrying an offensive weapon.
- Abbas Issa received three-and-a-half years for violent disorder, one extra year for dangerousness, and two years and six months for possession of an offensive weapon.
All sentences will run concurrently.
Murder Details: Stabbing After Chaotic Knife Fight
On 4 September 2017, witnesses reported seeing two groups fighting with knives on Rosebery Road, Hounslow. Police arrived to find a white Volkswagen Golf fleeing at speed. Patrick Oyeri was discovered bleeding from a stab wound to his chest.
Despite efforts by London Ambulance and Air Ambulance crews, Patrick was pronounced dead at the scene at 4:18pm. A post-mortem confirmed stabbing as the cause of death.
Investigation Uncovers Key Evidence
Police from the Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command launched a full investigation. Qureshi was arrested 15 days later, sporting a three-inch thigh cut consistent with injuries sustained during the fight. CCTV showed him hobbling into hospital shortly after the attack, wearing the same clothes as a knife carrier at the scene.
Issa disappeared shortly after the stabbing, with his mother reporting him missing on 7 September. He had fled to Tanzania but was arrested upon return to Heathrow Airport in October. Forensic evidence linked Issa to the getaway car.
Detective Inspector Mark Long said: “I’m glad two people involved in the events leading to Patrick’s murder have been brought to justice. This was a terrible tragedy, leaving a family shattered. We continue to appeal for information that could help identify Patrick’s killer.”
Patrick’s mother added: “Patrick’s death shocked all of us. We may never recover, but we hope the truth will come out.”
Ongoing Police Inquiry
Investigations continue with five other arrests made. One man was charged with violent disorder but no further evidence was offered. Others were released without charge.
