Abuser Jailed for Brutal Attacks on Woman in Her Own Home
Bernard Cowley, 37, from Tyrells Way, Sutton Courtney, has been locked up for over four years after admitting a vicious series of attacks on a woman in her thirties. Oxford Crown Court handed down a four years and three months sentence on Tuesday (26/2) after Cowley pleaded guilty to three counts of actual bodily harm.
Three Savage Attacks Over Nearly a Year
Cowley launched three violent assaults on the same victim at her home on Tyrells Way. The attacks happened on 4 November 2017, 10 May 2018, and 3 November 2018. The woman suffered serious injuries, including a broken nose, a black eye, cuts, and bruising around her body and throat.
She needed hospital treatment following the savage attacks but has since been discharged.
Police Praise Victim’s Bravery
Detective Constable Martin Whaley of the Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit praised the victim for her courage throughout the case. He said: “The victim in this case was subjected to sustained and somewhat frenzied attacks by Cowley. The lasting impact of these crimes cannot be understated. Not only do they leave physical injuries but often also result in lasting psychological ones.”
He added: “I would like to thank the victim in this case for her bravery and support in this investigation. I am pleased that Cowley will now be spending time in prison and I hope the victim can take some comfort in this and can begin moving on from these incidents.”
