Stolen Medal Recovered After 30 Years – Owner Finally Gets It Back!
Long-Lost Masonic Medal Found
A precious ‘Past Masters’ masonic medal stolen over three decades ago has been recovered and is on its way home. The medal, issued in 1980, vanished in 1987 when a briefcase was snatched from a car in Sturry Road, Canterbury.
Owner Spots Medal Online
Albert Marrable, 78, had almost forgotten the theft—until he saw his medal for sale online earlier this year. The medal, engraved with his name on the back, had apparently traded hands several times since it was stolen.
Police Act Fast to Return Keepsake
After Kent Police were alerted, officers tracked down the current sellers located on Scotland’s east coast. The sellers agreed to hand over the medal, and PC Alex Dyer from Canterbury’s Victim Based Crime Team will personally return it to Mr Marrable this week.
“Kent Police is committed to getting justice for victims whether the offence happened five minutes or four decades ago,” said PC Dyer. “While the thief was never caught, we’re pleased to reunite Mr Marrable with his valuable keepsake.”
Mr Marrable added, “When I saw the medal online, I feared it would be sold again and lost forever. Thanks to PC Dyer’s efforts, I’m thrilled to have it back.”
