Teen Caught with Gun and Knife on London DLR
Kenneth Okafor, 20, was nabbed carrying a handgun and knife during a routine stop by British Transport Police on London’s Docklands Light Railway (DLR).
Arrest Made at All Saints Station
The young offender was stopped at All Saints station at around 5pm on Friday, 4 October 2019. Officers found not only a weapon but also discovered his home was stocked with materials to make ammo.
Despite its simple appearance, forensic tests confirmed the handgun was capable of firing the makeshift ammunition found in his possession.
Unhealthy Obsession with Firearms
Investigators said the evidence pointed to an “unhealthy interest” in firearms and ammunition. Okafor, who lives in Jeremiah Street, Tower Hamlets, was sentenced to two years in a young offender institution at Inner London Crown Court on 6 November.
He was convicted of possessing a firearm, ammunition, and carrying a knife in public.
Police Warn Rail Users Are Safe
Detective Constable Mike Ganly of British Transport Police said: “Okafor had an unhealthy interest in firearms and ammunition – both have no place on the rail network where they can put other passengers at risk. He has now experienced the consequences and will serve time.”
“We patrol the rail network constantly and carry out pre-arranged, intelligence-led operations weekly. This keeps passengers safe and ensures offenders are caught.”
