Orpington Sex Attacker Jailed for Nine Years
George Wallace, 26, from Wichling Close, Orpington, was slammed with a nine-year jail term for attempted rape and trespass after breaking into a woman’s flat. The Woolwich Crown Court handed down the sentence on Monday, 23 November, following a swift trial.
Horror Break-In at Orpington Flat
The shocking attack happened just before 7am on 10 November 2019. The 58-year-old victim was fast asleep in her High Street home when Wallace creeped in through the bathroom window. He then grabbed her, exposed himself, and tried to rape her.
Thankfully, her screams alerted her daughter, who was also in the flat. She quickly called the police as Wallace escaped via the same bathroom window.
Forensics Pinpoint Wallace as Attacker
Officers arrived minutes after the emergency call. They found muddy footprints leading from the bathroom to the victim’s bedroom. Forensic experts collected DNA evidence and fingerprints. Wallace’s prints were on the bathroom window, and his DNA was on a vodka bottle left behind.
Detective Constable Paul Harakis said: “The fingerprint and DNA evidence was vital in identifying Wallace. The victim showed tremendous courage giving evidence. This case highlights the power of teamwork between forensic experts and police to bring offenders to justice.”
Life on the Sex Offenders Register and Licence
Wallace must serve at least two-thirds of his prison term before parole. After release, he will spend five years on licence and is now on the sex offenders register for life.
Detective Harakis urged victims to come forward: “We take these cases very seriously. Anyone affected should contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
