Drug Dealer Busted After Officers Spot Suspicious VW in Peterborough

Officers Spot Dodgy Behaviour in West Town

Sagar Raj, 25, was caught red-handed last April after police clocked him parked up in a silver Volkswagen Passat on Nicholls Avenue, West Town. The officers were patrolling when they noticed several cars pull up near Raj’s car but quickly peel off upon spotting the police.

Cannabis Joint and Burner Phone Left Behind

Suspecting something fishy, officers approached Raj and asked him out of the car. As he exited, a cannabis joint and a Nokia burner phone slid off the seat where he’d been sitting. A quick search revealed two small bags of cannabis tucked near the steering wheel — plus £340 cash in Raj’s pockets. He was promptly arrested for possession with intent to supply class B drugs and drug driving after failing a roadside drug test.

Hidden Heroin and Crack Worth Thousands Found

Once in custody, a strip search uncovered a plastic bag hidden in Raj’s underwear containing 56 wraps of heroin and crack cocaine. The haul was estimated to be worth up to £4,600. A blood sample confirmed cannabis in his system.

Raj Sentenced to Over Two Years Behind Bars

Raj, from Granville Street, Peterborough, pleaded guilty to drug driving, possession of cannabis, and possession with intent to supply heroin and crack cocaine. Yesterday (Tuesday 6 April), he was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court to two years and four months in prison. Raj will also be banned from driving for six months after his release.

PC George Corney said: “This was a great spot by our neighbourhood officers who acted on their instincts when something didn’t seem right. While we do our best to have officers out on the ground, members of the public are the eyes and ears of our communities. I would urge anyone who has concerns about drug dealing to report it to us.”
