Met Police Detective Caught Spying on Woman Naked with Phone
A serving Met Police detective sergeant was caught red-handed trying to snap secret photos of a woman naked in a bathroom. Benjamin McNish, 30, was shocked and confused when confronted after his creepy act on February 18, 2019.
Shocking Excuse Falls Flat in Court
McNish, from Benfleet, shockingly claimed he was just searching for his razor using his phone camera as an “extension of my eyes” before a work drinks event. But a jury at Southwark Crown Court wasn’t buying it. He was found guilty of voyeurism, spying on a private act for sexual gratification.
Promising Career in Tatters
- McNish is a married father of two, fluent in seven languages with degrees in Chinese and Spanish.
- He was promoted to sergeant just three years after joining the Met.
- He had been involved in revamping the child abuse unit and was set to join the rape and sex offences squad.
Now suspended and facing the probable end of his police career, McNish awaits sentencing on July 15. He could face prison time. An additional charge of possessing extreme pornographic images was left on file and did not proceed to trial.
CPS Slam ‘Wholly Unacceptable’ Crime
“Benjamin McNish was a serving policeman who observed a woman showering without her consent for his own sexual gratification,” said CPS senior prosecutor Andrew Levin.
“He violated the victim’s privacy by spying on her in a bathroom. His actions were clearly illegal and wholly unacceptable.”
