Father Jailed for Baby Daughter’s Tragic Death
A father has been locked up for 13 years after his three-month-old daughter died from horrific injuries.
Anthony Miley, 33, from Macclesfield, was found guilty of manslaughter following a three-week trial at Chester Crown Court on 3 August.
Meanwhile, Stephanie Shore, 33, also from Macclesfield and the baby’s mother, was cleared of murder and any charge related to allowing the death.
How Baby Ivi’s Last Hours Unfolded
On 22 July 2020, baby Ivi woke up at around 3.20am. Miley took her downstairs to feed but fell asleep. When he woke, he tried feeding her again.
He claimed Ivi took a few mouthfuls before turning “floppy.” Panicked, he went to get help from Shore.
Shore said she heard Ivi cry but wasn’t alarmed and went back to sleep. Around 5am, Miley woke Shore, saying something was wrong. Shore found Ivi unresponsive and called 999.
Horrific Injuries Revealed
Paramedics rushed Ivi to Macclesfield General Hospital, then transferred her to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital ICU after scans showed alarming injuries.
- Bleeding on both sides of the brain
- Fracture to the back of the head
- Multiple fractures to ribs, old and new, on both sides of her body
Despite the medics’ best efforts, baby Ivi died on 23 July 2020.
Shocking Details and Police Statement
Neither parent could explain how the baby suffered such catastrophic injuries. Both were arrested and charged with murder and causing or allowing a child’s death.
Detective Inspector Kate Tomlinson said: “This is a tragic case involving a defenceless baby who had been subject to a catalogue of horrendous injuries in her short life which must have been lived predominantly in pain.
“Ivi sustained 53 rib fractures in four different time frames, and three closely positioned skull fractures caused less than two days before her death.
“Miley continues to deny any knowledge of how Ivi sustained these injuries and has shown no remorse, which is totally unforgivable.”
