Machete attacker jailed for 11 years after terrifying home invasion
Chilling midnight machete attack in Rivacre Road
Daniel Dickinson and Nathan Tuppeny faced justice at Chester Crown Court on Thursday 14 April. Dickinson, 30, with no fixed address, was locked up for 11 years plus four years extended licence after pleading guilty to aggravated burglary. His accomplice, 30-year-old Tuppeny of High Street, Gresford, got 18 months for assisting an offender.
The horrifying attack unfolded around 10.20pm on Sunday 7 July 2019. The victim, a 43-year-old man, was in bed when a loud bang woke him. He found Dickinson, masked and wielding a machete, in his living room. When ordered to get on the floor, the man refused—and was viciously slashed in the shoulder, severing an artery.
Desperate escape from machete assault
Fearing for his life, the victim fled the house but was struck again in the head by Dickinson’s blade, causing a bleeding wound. Dickinson then fled the scene in a vehicle driven by Tuppeny. The victim managed to escape and was rushed to hospital for emergency surgery.
Police crack down with forensic evidence
Ellesmere Port CID launched a thorough investigation. Detectives recovered the bloody machete and linked Dickinson to the attack through forensic evidence. Several mobile phones with incriminating messages also sealed the pair’s fate.
“Everyone has a right to feel safe in their own home, so I cannot imagine how the victim must have felt when he discovered a man, wearing a balaclava and wielding a weapon, in his address,”
said DCI Justin Hancock, Ellesmere Port Crime Manager.
“He sustained significant injuries during the attack and I have no doubt the outcome could have been far worse had he not escaped. Thankfully, Dickinson and Tuppeny have pleaded guilty and are now being held accountable.”
“While the victim will never forget that night, I hope the sentences provide some closure and help him move on with his life.”
