Brutal Newbury Robbery: Man Punched Unconscious, Phone and Coat Stolen
Violent Attack in Alleyway
Police are hunting two men after a brutal robbery in Newbury left a 52-year-old man battered and bruised. The victim was walking with his partner through an alleyway between Newtown Road and Old Newtown Road around 9pm on Tuesday (3/11) when the shocking attack unfolded.
The couple heard shouting and turned, spotting someone yelling on the street. They kept walking – until the victim was ambushed by two men, one of whom stripped off his jumper before launching the violent assault.
The victim was punched repeatedly in the head, leaving him with cuts to his hands and bruises on his face. He was rushed to Royal Berkshire Hospital for treatment. During the attack, a black Apple iPhone XR and a dark blue Gant coat were stolen.
Suspect Descriptions Released
- Offender One: White male, about 5ft 8ins, muscular build, in his twenties, short dark hair. He wore a jumper before removing it and attacked while topless.
- Offender Two: White male, slim build, same height, twenties, short dark hair, short beard, wearing a thin black tracksuit jacket. Clothing below the waist unknown.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
“I would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the robbery or who has any details which may be useful to our investigation,” said Detective Constable Robert Simpson-Jones from Newbury police station.
