Nightclub Glass Attack Lands Man in Prison for Four Years

Mark Crosby, 27, also known as Mark Fisher, unleashed chaos just after midnight on 5 October 2019 at H20 nightclub in Wisbech. The Small Lode man spotted another bloke staring at him at the bar and didn’t hesitate.

Crosby smashed a small spirit glass into the man’s face before landing a savage punch to the head. He then fled the scene.

Victim Suffers Serious, Permanent Injuries

An ambulance was called, but the victim made his way to hospital alone. The vicious attack followed an old feud from 2017, though no charges had been made back then.

The victim ended up with horrific injuries, including permanent facial scarring, blurred vision, and watery eyes. “It’s caused him a lot of embarrassment,” the judge later noted.

Judge Describes Attack as “Cowardly and Gratuitous”

Crosby, from Upwell near Wisbech, was arrested and charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent. He refused to comment during police interviews but eventually pleaded guilty at Peterborough Crown Court.

Sentencing on 13 April, Judge Matthew Lowe slammed Crosby’s actions as a “totally unprovoked act of cowardice” against a defenceless victim. He noted there had been some animosity linked to Crosby’s connection with the travelling community, but believed the nightclub meeting was a coincidence.

Crosby was handed a hefty four-year prison sentence.

Police Crackdown on Violent Crime

“Using a glass as a weapon, Crosby launched a completely unprovoked attack on another man who has been left with permanent scarring,” said Detective Sergeant Darryl Purdy.

“Violence like this is completely unacceptable, and we will do all we can to bring offenders to justice.”
