Three Held Over Fatal Stabbing of Lee Dawson in Preston

A 42-year-old man was found dead in Preston after a brutal stabbing in the early hours. Police have arrested three suspects, including two charged with murder.

Trio in Custody Following Fatal Attack

  • A 38-year-old woman and a 23-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.
  • A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder.
  • All three remain in police custody as the investigation continues.

Lee Dawson, originally from Preston but living in Sunderland, was discovered with stab wounds on Jutland Street just after 3am on Friday, June 17. Emergency services rushed him to Royal Preston Hospital, but he later died. A Home Office post-mortem confirmed he died from stabbing injuries.

Two Men Charged With Murder

Andrew Wilcock, 29, of Lincoln Walk, Preston, and Benjamin Bibby, 20, of Dawson Walk, Preston, have been charged with murder and possession of a bladed weapon. The pair appeared at Preston Magistrates’ Court and will face Preston Crown Court on Thursday.

Five other men, aged 18 to 31, arrested over the weekend on suspicion of murder, have since been released on bail as inquiries progress.

Police Appeal for Witnesses

“This remains a complex and fast moving investigation,” said Det Chief Insp Mark Haworth-Oates of Lancashire Police’s Force Major Investigation Team. “While we have arrested a number of people and charged two, I would continue to appeal to anyone with information to get in touch.”
