The Shoreham all-weather lifeboat was working overtime Thursday night after a man was seen trying to get into the water off Hove.
Search Parties Scramble for Missing Man
The crew launched a thorough search while Shoreham and Newhaven coastguard teams combed the shoreline. Police eventually found the man safe near Brunswick Square and took him into care.
Rescue Shift to Stranded Yacht
No sooner had the first call ended than the lifeboat and coastguards were scrambled again — this time to assist a 40ft twin-masted yacht drifting south of Brighton Marina. With three people and a dog onboard, the vessel had broken down and was dangerously drifting into the shore.
The lifeboat crew swiftly located the yacht, attached a tow, and guided it safely back to Brighton Marina.
Official Statement from Shoreham Coastguard
“Team paged to report of missing person, possibly intending to enter the water. Coastguards from Shoreham and Newhaven, along with Shoreham RNLI, conducted a shoreline search. Sussex Police located the man and confirmed he was safe. On returning to station, all three teams were re-tasked to a boat adrift by Brighton Marina. Shoreham RNLI lifeboat located the vessel and towed her back to safety. All occupants were safe and well. Teams stood down.”
