Brutal Pub Brawl Sees Good Samaritan Left Blind in One Eye
Chaos Erupts at Weedon Pub
On February 11, a violent fight exploded inside the Sevens pub on Weedon Road. Casey Edwards, once from Northampton, joined a savage scrap involving pool cues and knives. The chaos spiralled quickly when Edwards targeted an innocent man in his 50s trying to break up the melee.
Innocent Bystander Suffered Horrific Injuries
The victim was punched to the floor and then stamped on by Edwards. The assault left him with permanent vision loss, a broken nose, deep cuts around his eye, and a fractured cheekbone.
“This attack has knocked me for six,” the victim said in a personal statement. “I was just trying to help someone who was in trouble and I didn’t expect to end up being punched and stamped on.”
Edwards Caught and Sent Down
Eleven days after the pub brawl, Edwards was arrested. Police found him with a stash of cash and Class A drugs, leading to a further charge for possession with intent to supply. While in custody, Edwards also lashed out at police officers.
He pleaded guilty to all charges and was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court on November 1 to four years and ten months in prison.
Already behind bars on a previous licence, Edwards will serve his new sentence after June 2024, once his current term ends.
Police Praise Victim and Vow to Crack Down on Violence
Detective Constable Mike Anslow said: “This was a really awful incident as the victim was simply trying to calm a tense and dangerous situation down when he was brutally attacked by Casey Edwards.”
“I’m pleased this prison sentence reflects the seriousness with which Northamptonshire Police treat violent crime, one of our top priorities. I thank the victim for his support during the investigation and hope this outcome helps him find justice and move forward.”
