McDonald’s Eyes Licence Plates on Drive-Thru Orders to Nab Litterbugs

Big Brother might soon be watching your fast food run. McDonald’s is considering a bold new plan: printing your car’s number plate on every drive-thru order. The idea? Track down drivers who litter and slap them with fines.

Could Licence Plates Crack Down on Trash Tossers?

The fast-food giant wants customers to bin their packaging properly. By linking orders to vehicles, offenders could be easily traced and punished. McDonald’s has backed the proposal, saying it supports cleaner streets and responsible disposal.

Data Dilemmas and Privacy Hurdles

But it’s not all straightforward. McDonald’s previously toyed with the licence plate idea but hit snags. Handling and storing customer data this way raises privacy issues. The company admits there are challenges in making the scheme work without crossing legal lines.

“We remain one with the proposal,” a McDonald’s spokesperson said, “but the technical and data protection obstacles aren’t easy to overcome.”

What do you think? Would you accept your car number getting tagged on your takeaway bag to keep streets cleaner?
