Police Launch Major Investigation and Appeal for Witnesses
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims described the shooter’s actions as “totally and utterly reckless”. She urged the public to come forward with any information to help catch those responsible for the “horrific murder”.
“She should have had the rest of her life ahead of her. Instead, her family can only speculate on what could have been. These people must be apprehended.” – ACC Jenny Sims
Detective Superintendent Sue Coombs added the victim’s family had been informed and were devastated by the loss on what should have been a night of celebration.
“We do not believe the victim was targeted. She was simply enjoying Christmas with friends. We are focusing on establishing the motive and circumstances of this callous attack. A dark-coloured vehicle, possibly an A-Class Mercedes, was seen leaving the scene shortly after – we want to speak to anyone connected to it.” – Det Supt Sue Coombs
Local Community in Shock as Authorities Search for Answers
The Lighthouse pub described the shooting as a “tragedy beyond any words.” Wirral Council leader Janette Williamson called it “despicable”, while Wallasey MP Dame Angela Eagle labelled the event “heartbreaking,” urging witnesses to contact police immediately.
A local resident, 77, said she mistook the gunshots for Christmas fireworks and was stunned by the violence. She suspected the chaos was linked to a recent garden break-in involving people climbing over walls to leave the pub quickly.
Police continue to appeal for information as the investigation unfolds. Anyone with details is urged to come forward.
