Transport Secretary Shakes Up Traffic Commissioner Team
Mark Harper, the Secretary of State for Transport, has freshened up the Traffic Commissioner ranks with a new permanent appointment and two fresh deputies.
Miles Dorrington Confirmed as West Midlands Traffic Chief
Miles Dorrington, who’s been holding down the fort as acting Traffic Commissioner in the West Midlands since Nick Denton retired in June 2022, is now the full-time Traffic Commissioner for the area.
“I am delighted that Miles has been appointed as a permanent member to the traffic commissioner team. He brings with him significant experience of this jurisdiction from many years as a Deputy Traffic Commissioner, and as a tribunal judge in other jurisdictions,” said Senior Traffic Commissioner Richard Turfitt.
Two New Deputy Traffic Commissioners Join the Team
Supporting the Traffic Commissioners will be new deputies Catherine Moxon and Dr Paul Stookes, both bringing strong legal credentials to the table.
- Catherine Moxon: A barrister with a background in criminal and civil law, now specialising in regulatory law. She serves on the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service and chairs panels on School Admission and Exclusion.
- Dr Paul Stookes: A solicitor-advocate boasting 25+ years in public, civil, and criminal law. Paul advises the UK Environmental Law Association and leads assessments for the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment.
Catherine will serve in Northern England, while Paul takes on the Southeast.
Richard Turfitt added, “Catherine and Paul will strengthen the team of full time and part time commissioners, providing invaluable support and experience. I genuinely look forward to working with them.”
The Role of Traffic Commissioners
